What are compression garments?

Compression garments are designed to help improve performance and reduce recovery time. They improve blood circulation to provide a more effective blood flow to filter toxins from muscles during exercise (lactic acid) and provide better oxygenation to the muscles. They also have a muscle stabilizing effect; to bring better muscle alignment and reduce micro-tears. The user can therefore hope to perform better; have less leg heaviness, while reducing the risk of cramps and feel less muscle aches after training. Faster recovery.

Indeed, one of the benefits of compression garments for athletes is a faster recovery; reducing, in addition, muscle pain, which usually occurs after an intense physical exercise.

There are several types of compression garments. For the lower body are compression stockings, shorts, ¾ pants, tights and various types of compression leg sleeves. For the upper body, there are sleeveless, short sleeve and long sleeve compression shirts in addition to different types of compression arm sleeves.

EC3D manufactures the most innovative compression garments on the market to improve your performance and results. We are doing our mission. Our technical designers strive to find innovative ways to use compression technology as our team of medical specialists subjects our products to intensive testing.

How to differentiate a good from a "less good" compression garment?

The term "compression" is widely used in the market. Several sportswear or training wear self-proclaimed "compression" without really including compression. Note however that there is a system of compression rank in order to find you there.

Compression Grade
15-20 mmHg
20-30 mmHg (medical grade 1)
30-40 mmHg (medical grade 2, a medical prescription is required)
40-50 mmHg (medical grade 3, a medical prescription is required)

The abbreviation mmHg means millimeter (mm) of mercury (Hg of the Latin Hydrargyrum). This is a unit of measurement used to measure blood pressure.

Our EC3D compression garments are "medical grade compression", calibrated and adapted to the anatomy. The level of compression is indicated on all our clothes and in each of our product pages of our website. To be considered medical grade compression, the level of compression of a garment must be at least 20 mmHg and more. The indication "20-25 mmHg" for example, which means that the amount of compression will not be below 20 mmHg and will not exceed 25 mmHg.

At EC3D, performance garments have a compression level of 20 to 25 mmHg and the recovery garments have a level of 25 to 30 mmHg.

Our sportswear is called "Graduated Compression", which means that the compression is higher at the ends and gradually decreases towards the heart so that the blood returns faster for better reoxygenation.

Finally, our garments are also "Targeted Compression", which means that our sportswear features strategic compression zones that stabilize muscles and reduce muscle oscillations. In this way, the effort provided by the muscles is decreased and allows you to perform longer. Woven on the garment, specific compression zones eliminate the use of thick, irritating additional panels. A seamless fabric that fits your anatomy like a second skin and optimizes the biomechanics of your entire body.

- Improves spatial perception (proprioception)
- Gives more power and precision

Compression clothing, for whom?

Originally, compression garments, also known as compression clothing, have been manufactured for people with circulatory problems, to treat venous system diseases and to prevent the risk of phlebitis on airplane. It is also suggested to wear compression stockings (compression stockings) for journeys of more than 5 hours by plane as a preventive measure. Compression clothing is now more and more popular among athletes.

You do not have to be a professional athlete to use them. Anyone wishing to improve their performance and reduce their recovery time after training will benefit from wearing compression garments.

Runners, joggers are customers of choice for compression stockings. People who train physically at the gym, CrossFit or any other type of workout for a sport will also benefit from wearing compression garments such as compression shorts and compression shirts as well as our clothing specific to improve post-workout recovery.
